MPI is replacing New Zealand's only approved laboratory for containing and diagnosing serious veterinary diseases.
The biocontainment laboratory, designed to deal with large-scale animal disease emergencies such as foot and mouth is replacing two older labs and will be built to the highest international standards.
Canadian-based Merrick Consultancy are principle consultants and the building was designed by CCM Architects.
The project is due to be finished early 2019.
